Dufferin Construction Company is proud to receive the Ministry of Transportation’s 2004 Paver of the Year Award, for the construction of Highway 6 in Mount-Hope, Ontario. The project involved the creation of a new highway. from the existing Hwy. 6 to Hwy. 403 and the Hamilton International Airport. Dufferin Construction Company earned this prestigious award for the quality placement of 152,00 tonnes of hot mix asphalt.
Description Of The Award

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation has been recognizing excellence in the asphalt industry with its “Paver of the Year Award” since 1992.
Criteria for Paver of the Year are:
- Overall combined ERS Specifications component of hot mix: % AC gradation, compaction, air voids
- Smoothness: the smoother, the better
- Segregation: checked only for the surface course
- Other surface defects: roller marks, changes in colour, inconsistent appearance
- Overall workmanship
- Innovation: recognition of advances in hot mix and pavement quality
The Ministry’s Regional Offices assign a numerical grade in each category; the criteria are weighted; and the marks combined for an overall score. Consideration is given to traffic conditions, night paving requirements and condition of the pavement before the contract.
